What is Anxiety?
Everyone has felt anxiety at some point in their life, like just before that important exam, going to that new job interview or when you know you have to have a difficult conversation with someone. All of these situations can leave you with that feeling of ‘butterflies’ in your stomach or mild panic. What are the symptoms of severe anxiety?
General anxiety disorder can manifest in many different forms, it can range from replaying old arguments, conversations or moments over and over in your mind to an uncomfortable feeling that no matter what you do it will never be quite right. Other people can have a specific fears or phobias such as public speaking or being in large crowds. A few other common symptoms are:
- Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
- Changes in appetite
- Palpitations (heart racing very fast)
- Stomach cramps / diarrhea
- Panic Attacks
- Headaches, backache and other general aches and pains
- Avoidance of situations and/or people
- Unable to relax
